The time after the birth is full of new experiences to discover. Your family has now a different structure and the daily routine is not the same as before. It is good to have support from family, friends, and neighbors. But it is also important for you to get your rest. If necessary, it is okay to ask nicely the guests to leave.
The role of the midwife in the after birth care is to ensure that both mother and child are doing well. I check the regression of the uterus, your bleeding and I will support you with the breastfeeding. Other topics are contraception, sexuality and the pelvic floor. The child will be weighed, bathed and any jaundice will be checked. If you wish, I will be happy to show you how the child should be carried in the baby sling. If there is a problem, it is my job to send you to your gynecologist or to the pediatrician.
With a fresh newborn baby in your arms, some questions may arise. I visit you at home regularly in the first weeks after the birth and will be glad to answer any question. Important to know: You have the right to contact your midwife until as long you are breastfeeding. That means that your health insurance covers also meetings where I advice you about the start with solid food for the Baby and Baby-Led-Weaning.
I currently don’t offer any after birth pelvic floor courses. To do this, please inform yourself in the clinics, birth centers and other midwives.
